Sarah turns 29

A lot of my friends, and myself, are fast approaching the 30 years old mark. Sarah will be one of the last of this crowd to jump into the early thirties age band, however, even though she is slightly younger and turning 29 in June, her birthday was, of course, the most civilised of affairs.

We started with delectable nibbles at a picnic in Clapham Common, with a few drinks besides.

Birthday cake of course (that's a guinea pig in case you're wondering).

And then a spirited game of rounders which did NOT start with the destroying of a gorgeous birthday balloon I'd got Sarah. Well done, James.

And then more drinks...

Douche.

Engagement "Drinks"

So...today is 4th September which means, as I'm writing this I have now been engaged for...about 3 months. I am still finding it super hard to wrap my head around the fact that I am getting married. Very weird. But anyway, a lot of people wanted to see me and Ben when they heard the news and I personally didn't want to throw an 'engagement party'...so I invited people out for a 'drink to celebrate our engagement'.

It quickly descended into a party though...

It started out so  nicely... but the delicious cocktails and the cheesy music turned the our 'drinks' in to a very definitive 'party'...

Getting home about one in the morning, Ben and I agreed it was a pretty fantastic 'non-party'. A bit delayed in thanking everyone who made the effort to come out given the late notice! You made the night!

The Elephant Man

The play in London is sadly finished now, but it really was an incredible play.

If you don't know who the Elephant Man is, it's interesting to look into the story. Joseph Merrick was born with extreme physical deformities. He lived with a circus as a "freak show" attraction. He later met a doctor and went to live at his hospital before dying aged 27.

Interestingly in this play, Bradley Cooper wears no prosthetics or make-up to recreate the deformities. Rather, in a really incredible scene at the beginning of the play they display a picture of the real-life Elephant Man and Alessandro Nivola, playing Doctor Frederick Treves, talks us through the deformities which Bradley Cooper, step by step, contorts his body to mimic these.

It was an amazing play, and had some really amazing funny bits. Bradley Cooper was really fantastic but I also really enjoyed Patricia Clarkson's performance as the narcissistic actress who befriends Merrick.

This was the best picture I was able to snap of Bradley Cooper after the show.

And since the crowds dissipated after Bradley left I was lucky enough to nab a selfie with Patricia Clarkson!
