Clare's Hen Do

Clare, is now married. But before that occurred we all bid farewell to her unmarried years with the traditional hen-do. It was amazing! We all gathered in Bath in a lovely house we had for the weekend.

And our first Friday night was a bit of a sleepover with pizza and girly chat, and some tasty beverages!

We woke up bright and early to visit Bath's Thermae Spa, for which I have no pictures because we were busy swimming in the roof top pool and relaxing in the steam rooms! And after that, we went to one of Bath's oldest houses for tea, Sally Lunn's.

And then we took a boat...

And we took that boat, to some other boats...

Now, punting was not something I'd ever really thought of as a hen-do activity before, and I'll admit, that I had my misgivings, but honestly, you add champagne to most activities and you will find they're pretty fun.

Even if you are driving! Or, as we decided to label it, 'Puntress', for the afternoon.

Clare's Hen Weekend June 2015

Although, drinking and driving will inevitably lead to accidents, no matter the vehicle.

There's a tree there, guys.

Clare's Hen Weekend June 2015

I readily admit that this quickly became my favourite part of the weekend. Punting in Bath, do it! But bring bubbly!

We had a full night planned following the punting, but luckily, some scheduled downtime was available inbetween, so some half-cut hens and the bride to be chilled out in front of a movie.

Which meant that we were well rested, and suitably excited for the evening events...

It may be very delayed but there's something to be said about being behind on my posts, it's very fun to reminisce and look back through the pictures! Next hen party I will be on is my own...now THAT'S scary.

Sarah turns 29

A lot of my friends, and myself, are fast approaching the 30 years old mark. Sarah will be one of the last of this crowd to jump into the early thirties age band, however, even though she is slightly younger and turning 29 in June, her birthday was, of course, the most civilised of affairs.

We started with delectable nibbles at a picnic in Clapham Common, with a few drinks besides.

The birthday girl!

Birthday cake of course (that's a guinea pig in case you're wondering).

And then a spirited game of rounders which did NOT start with the destroying of a gorgeous birthday balloon I'd got Sarah. Well done, James.

And then more drinks...

Engagement "Drinks"

So...today is 4th September which means, as I'm writing this I have now been engaged for...about 3 months. I am still finding it super hard to wrap my head around the fact that I am getting married. Very weird. But anyway, a lot of people wanted to see me and Ben when they heard the news and I personally didn't want to throw an 'engagement party'...so I invited people out for a 'drink to celebrate our engagement'.

It quickly descended into a party though...

It started out so  nicely... but the delicious cocktails and the cheesy music turned the our 'drinks' in to a very definitive 'party'...

Getting home about one in the morning, Ben and I agreed it was a pretty fantastic 'non-party'. A bit delayed in thanking everyone who made the effort to come out given the late notice! You made the night!

The Elephant Man

The play in London is sadly finished now, but it really was an incredible play.

The Elephant Man June 2015

If you don't know who the Elephant Man is, it's interesting to look into the story. Joseph Merrick was born with extreme physical deformities. He lived with a circus as a "freak show" attraction. He later met a doctor and went to live at his hospital before dying aged 27.

Interestingly in this play, Bradley Cooper wears no prosthetics or make-up to recreate the deformities. Rather, in a really incredible scene at the beginning of the play they display a picture of the real-life Elephant Man and Alessandro Nivola, playing Doctor Frederick Treves, talks us through the deformities which Bradley Cooper, step by step, contorts his body to mimic these.

It was an amazing play, and had some really amazing funny bits. Bradley Cooper was really fantastic but I also really enjoyed Patricia Clarkson's performance as the narcissistic actress who befriends Merrick.

The Elephant Man June 2015

This was the best picture I was able to snap of Bradley Cooper after the show.

And since the crowds dissipated after Bradley left I was lucky enough to nab a selfie with Patricia Clarkson!

Downer's 30th

Karaoke has been my favourite thing forever. Literally since I could string words together I've been attempting to sing. As luck would have it, karaoke either seems to be becoming increasingly popular or I've just managed to rid myself of friends who do not enjoy it, which brings me to James' 30th birthday.

Where absolutely no one was drinking.

James 30th Bday May 2015

No one.

No alcohol whatsover.

Especially not Chris...

And then there was a unicorn cake...because, unicorn cake. And then onto karaoke, which was just, all kinds of insane.

James definitely set the standard for turning 30. I'm just so glad I didn't have to go and sing with a seven piece band the next day in preparation for the musical...oh wait. Yeah. That was bad.
