Amsterdam

I've wanted to go to Amsterdam for ages, so Ben and I booked a little weekend away!

We were not lucky with the weather...but luckily there were some indoor activities we were interested in. First and foremost, the Van Gogh Museum!

You're not allowed to take pictures but I couldn't resist sneaking a few... Ben and I got advance tickets from a stand near the 'I amsterdam' sign so that we could walk straight in instead of joining the massive queues outside the museum - I recommend! We left the museum to seriously heavy rain again but luckily Shreena had recommended an activity we were very keen to do...

The Heineken brewery! I fully recommend this - it was SO much fun! We didn't really pay too much attention about the actual history of Heineken...but we had loads of fun at some of the other bits!

This was a virtual reality room where we all were 'brewed' which was weird, but fun none the less.

And then we had a beer tasting lesson, which was surprisingly educational, and we got to drink mini beers!

And then there was a room where they were showing Heineken adverts on a reel, they really had some good adverts!

And then we DJed...

And learnt to pour a perfect pint...

Which I was obviously awesome at. And then we took our drink tokens and were told we could either have a pint each of Heineken Extra Cold, or two pints each of Heineken regular...

We chilled out for a while in the little Heineken bar to enjoy our drinks.

The next day we enjoyed a walk.

And settled down for lunch in a square while a big brass band played.

And then we took a canal trip which was really good fun.

And in the evening, because you have to, we went round the red light district, very odd.

The next day, after another wander...

Ben and I...played glow in the dark mini golf.

Strange, yes, amazing though. And here my camera about packed in. Time for a new camera...

Film Four at Somerset House

I've been meaning to go to this event for years and this year I finally heard about it in time to actually get tickets! So, we opted for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes with Marilyn Monroe.

Cinema Somerset House August 2014

First thing I learned, get there early. We got there about two hours before the film was due to start but you actually need to be there before doors open to get a good seat - where we ended up sitting wasn't bad at all, but we were left with limited options.

Bring a picnic - because it's fun and the food options at Somerset House weren't bad but were limited. You can bring drinks too, though no glass and two cans limit per person.

Hope for good weather...the Sunday we went was awful and it rained a LOT during the day - we decided to risk the film anyway and we were fortunate that, despite some threatening clouds, it only lightly rained very briefly. We all brought waterproofs anyway, better to be prepared!

And the last thing I learned, you cannot under prepare comfort-wise, bring some comfy padding for your bum as you're sat on cobbles. We all brought cushions and a picnic blanket which helped but I wish I'd brought a few more and that I'd made enough space to lie down as being sat cross legged gets super uncomfortable after a while for me.

It's an amazing venue to see a film at though and I do recommend it - the film itself, it was my first time seeing it and I really enjoyed it, I'll be buying the DVD!

Emma and Carl's Wedding

My fourth and final wedding of the year was Uni friend Emma to Carl. I went to her hen do not long ago and I was super excited to see everyone at the wedding.

Emma's Wedding August 2014

The ceremony took place in this beautiful little church in Canterbury.

Emma's dress is one of the more unique wedding dresses I've seen this year and she looked absolutely phenomenal in it.

The reception took place up the street in a little pub where a marquee was set up in the garden. We were lucky for decent weather!

Emma had an area set up where you could take polaroid pictures with dress up items and accessories...this lead to some ill-advised gameplay after dinner.

And then in the evening, we were joined by some more familiar faces.

And then we hit the dancefloor!

And then Emma and Carl made the most original exit I have ever seen from a wedding reception!

And we bid them farewell as they rode off on a tandem bike! The next day, sleepy from the night before, we wandered into town. We had a few hours to kill before we met some friends for lunch, and lucky for us, the local cinema was doing a sing-along Frozen screening.

After which, we went for lunch and to meet Elodie.

Elodie was born 13th July...we've been eagerly waiting to meet her since!

Super cute! She wiggles in her sleep though, which is interesting when you're not used to holding babies...after some good catch up time with the new parents and a beast lunch, we caught the train back to London...completely exhausted.
