Field Day

I love festival season. I did three years in a row at Glastonbury but haven't been in a few years now. And though I had Isle of Wight all booked up, when Sarah invited me to Field Day, I was up for it, even though I literally had not heard of a single band that was playing there. So we headed up to North London and began our day with a champagne brunch at Fiona's.

A-yum. After some delicious food and delightful beverages, we ambled down to the festival, and to the bar.

So, I had listened to a couple of the bands beforehand...but I didn't really know any of them, nevertheless, I had a totally awesome time dancing, drinking and enjoying the sun, especially since the forecast had promised rain!

Cyprus - Part Five

OK, here we go with the final post about Cyprus! I should start by saying during the day we lounge about the pool recovering mostly...it's not especially picture worthy which is why this post starts with, shocker, the bar!

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

But this time we managed to pin down the newly weds for some post-wedding celebratory beverages.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

And a civilised game or two of pool quickly got silly with forfeits for the losers....

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

The rest of us were much more serious...

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

...and engaged in a serious game of Jungle Speed (if you don't know it, I seriously suggestion you invest by going here, it makes for a super fun drinking game as well as a competitive card game).

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

The Blues Brothers were performing that night - and Liz did not hesitate to shake her tailfeather!

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

The next day we headed down to the beach to partake of the inflatable fun...

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

We did one called Stealth and this sofa looking one, both very awesome. Fiona and Ben then very bravely went on this flying fish one...

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

They fully recommend it.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

So much so that Uncle James and Ian had a go as well! And then...too soon we were having our last holiday dinner...

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Guh. You cannot take him anywhere.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Fiona tells us how much malibu should go into a drink...and I must have followed her advice because there are no more pictures, but there was so much fun. A truly incredible holiday. So nice to be surrounded by the extended family, they live in Scotland so we don't all get to be together as much as we'd like. Having said that it's pretty obvious that when we do get together, we make it count

Cyprus - Part Four

The next day we took it easy...until about nightfall...

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Then we headed out for teppanyaki at Kamakura!

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014
Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

We assume our chef was new, and he entertained us in ways I'm not sure he intended to, like getting an egg stuck in the fan above the oven...ha! Or forgetting the egg shell was in his hat... Regardless, the food he cooked us was amazing! We had a mix of rice, meat and sushi...unfortunately I was pretty hungry so I only have this rather unimaginative bowl of rice as example...

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

And then, back to the bars, with a larger crowd this time!

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Now, a long time ago, Ben started annoying me by always calling 'cheers' at the most inopportune time and initiating the clinking, like, when my drink hadn't yet arrived, or I had just had a giant mouthful of food, so, on principle, I refuse to clink my glass to his, ever. My Dad, being my Dad, is on my side.

I was enjoying a cocktail called Crazy Monkey.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

I'll admit, I was actually enjoying a few of them.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014
And then the Four Seasons tribute began, and Auntie Patricia got a private show!

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Which she politely sat through.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

To a point...then she sidled up to her mother in an attempt to get away!

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Dad donned a leather jacket to lead some ladies in a dance -

And then everyone followed suit and hit the dance floor!

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

And Gran had a word with the man who gyrated on her daughter, but it ended well.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

We started to head home when the live music ended, ready to do it all again the next day!

Cyprus - Part Three

For most people, the wedding is followed by the reception, and then the next day, usually a hangover. While this was true for one or two attendees, for the rest of us, it was followed by a boat trip.

Laura and Paul's Wedding May 2014

My fantastic Aunt and Uncle, who never do anything by halves, treated everyone to a sail on the Mediterranean.

Laura and Paul's Wedding May 2014

As if that weren't enough they put the cherry on top of the sundae with a free bar.

Laura and Paul's Wedding May 2014

How awesome? Extremely, is the answer.

Laura and Paul's Wedding May 2014

In the sure hands of Captain Laura McGuigan...

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014
...we sailed the seas for a while before dropping anchor in the middle of the ocean, where the crew informed us we were welcome to jump from the second floor...Uncle James didn't hesitate.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

And several others were quick to follow.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

In an incredible feat of bravery, I....stood on the edge of the boat for about ten minutes before Ben came and held my hand and jumped with me.

We got sailing again and the party picked up as the bar was steadily stripped of it's stock...

Gran started off the pole dancing...

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

And others were quick to follow, Gran, however, insisted on another turn to show everyone how to do it properly!

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Uncle James was clever enough to stay off the pole...

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Unfortunately though, he was the first person to pick up the microphone.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Dad, of course, was not far behind him, starting the singing.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

About three people in, I heard my name being called and promptly ducked behind my chair which, of course, did me absolutely no good at all. Anyone who's been in this situation will understand that you can only protest so much before it gets good and awkward, so if you're going to do it. Do it right.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Now, judging by little Lucy's face there on the left, I was either really good, or really bad...either way I'm sure people were entertained somehow...but I was glad to hand the microphone back to my Uncle James and get back to my drink! Then Douglas gave us a hilarious number!

Several more songs were sung until we finally decided to depart from the boat that had docked thirty minutes ago, applauding our thanks to my Uncle James and Auntie Kay for an incredible day.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Exhausted, we headed back to the hotel.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Where, after promises of going out again in the evening, only a handful of us made it to the bars for a drink.

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Laura and Paul Wedding May 2014

Well, when the day is THAT good, you can't expect everyone to be on top form for the evening!
