Kettners

Ben and I had an awesome little date night! It started with dinner at one of my favourite restaurants in London, Kettners.

Kettners Jan 2014
The food is simply amazing, I'm pretty sure it's a French restaurant...I'm going by the fact they have beef bourginon on the menu so I may well be wrong! Regardless, it's awesome. And if you have a tastecard then it's 50% off (except Friday and Saturday) which makes it a proper bargain!

Kettners Jan 2014

We ordered a couple of glasses of red wine (French, bien-sur) and perused the menu.

Kettners Jan 2014

I had the game terrine which was very enjoyable.

Kettners Jan 2014

Ben had onion soup which I think he enjoyed, though it was not how I described it to him (I had it once in France and the top was literally COVERED in cheese).

Then Ben had the burger while I had the beef bourginon...though unfortunately I must have been too busy eating it to take a picture of it so...apologies for that. We then went to see Mojo which was a FANTASTIC show. It's not on for very long so do catch it if you can. It's fantastically performed and I found that sitting in stalls in restricted view seats (there's a small pillar) means your tickets are cheaper, but you can more or less see everything!
It's also got an impressive cast list Rupert Grint (Mr Ron Weasley himself), Ben Whishaw (you may have seen him as Q in Skyfall) and Colin Morgan (seen Merlin? him!). They're all really awesome in it. And the other cast members are fantastic too. See it. Do it.

Afternoon Tea

Sarah always seems to find the best things to do in London. Every time I ask her what she's up to it's always something really random and awesome. So when she messaged me to see if I'd be up for an afternoon tea with unlimited champagne, I didn't really have to hesitate.

We arrived at the Social Reform & Grill and were shown to our table by exceptionally friendly waiters.

Obviously we got started straight away on the champagne, but there was tea too! I had darjeeling because it's amazing. The girls went for more exotic choices...

You get two options, a 'Vintage Tea' and a 'Gentleman's Tea'. The Gentleman's Tea features more manly food like sausage rolls and mini burgers, we opted for sandwiches because we liked the sound of them more. They were very tasty little sandwiches and the cakes were good too, my favourite was definitely the scones...look at it there all covered in jam and cream...YUM. I frickin' love scones.

The waiters really were the loveliest people - they even allowed us one more glass of champagne after our two hours were up!

I had, literally, the best afternoon I've had in AGES and I am bugging Sarah to get another event with these lovely ladies sorted because it was just so much fun. I fully recommend the Reform Social & Grill for a visit, though the unlimited champagne offer ends this weekend...hopefully they'll do something similar soon though! One to watch!

The Big Easy

Ben's been wanting to go to this place for ages so, before Christmas, Sarah booked us a table (as otherwise it's hard to get a decent time) and Thursday, we went there, finally!

The Big Easy Jan 2014

After navigating some seriously packed-in chairs and tables downstairs to our own little corner area, we purused the menu. Thursday at the Big Easy is Steak and Lobster night. For only £19.95 you can get steak and lobster with a frozen margarita or a cold beer. The boys obviously plumped for this option.

The Big Easy Jan 2014

Sarah had lobster only...

And I'd heard good things about the ribs so, even though it wasn't all you can eat BBQ (available on Mondays), I had to order a small rack.

For desserts we shared waffles and cheesecake.

So - good things, the food was, for the most part, good. The steaks were amazing (I had a bite) and the lobster was good. I was a little disappointed with my ribs, the ones I'd had at the Rum Kitchen were definitely better. These were lacking in flavour.

The Big Easy Jan 2014

You are pretty rammed in - and the music is louder than in most restaurants which we didn't expect and which made chatting a bit difficult. It didn't help that we were right next the stage (live music was a nice bonus) and right under a speaker, though the music was good.

The Big Easy Jan 2014

I had a pineapple mojito, which wasn't great...it got better after a little while and constant stirring but I was a little disappointed.

The Big Easy Jan 2014

And Sarah wasn't too fussed with her frozen margarita. But on the whole, it wasn't bad - I think we just fell for the hype and expected it to be amazing! I probably wouldn't go back unless it was for Monday all-you-can-eat-BBQ...but that;s just me!

Fish in a Tie

I think Sophie, Naomi, Isobel and I have all been back in London (having moved back from Paris where we met) since July 2013. Since then we have all gotten together a total of...twice. So, we're not doing too well on the meet ups but when they happen they are awesome! This time was awesome, not just for seeing my Parisian Putains (sorry if you're French, I'm pretty sure that's offensive/not correct), but because we went to an awesome little restaurant.

Fish in a Tie Jan 2014

Recommended by Isobel, this place is cheap and tasty and can be found in Clapham Junction.

Fish in a Tie! Now, I can't remember what we all had because I'm useless but it was amazingly delicious and I am definitely going back there. The restaurant itself was also really nice, great atmosphere, very romantic with candlelight everywhere and really friendly staff.

The food tastes better than it photographs! I seriously recommend trying this place. Seriously.

Hello 2014

So, New Years is a time to look back over the previous year and...well, I guess, see what you learned. I started 2013 in Paris, planning to come home and move in with Ben. A milestone in anyone's life, first time living with a boyfriend.

Has living with Ben been a learning experience? Hells yes. Luckily, we survived the trials and tribulations that moving in together brings, though I would say it takes about 3 months to find the harmonious living balance. That's not to say that now it's blissful, easy paradise. There are still the 'who left this here?' moments (a completely redundant question since it's just the two of us, yet both of us look completely innocently at the wrapper on the kitchen counter and insist it couldn't have been us). Moving in with Ben was an awesome decision though, and I'm so happy we did it.

We're moving soon though. The awesome house is also a bit too old, and damp problems have shoved us out the door. But hey - plenty of good memories! Looking back over the year (and over my blog which is a gorgeous little online diary of the bigger and better things I got up to) 2013 seems to just be filled with friends. Dinners, lunches, cinema trips, theatre, drinks, parties. Yeah. Pretty damn good year.

My year in pictures. A good year. Definitely a good year. So, what does 2014 have in store? The new flat should be ready in a couple of weeks, exciting, my new job is in the works...though I'm not sure of my start date yet!
My New Year Resolution is to become completely fluent in French. The time has come. I always think New Years Resolutions should be positive. Everyone aims to stop a bad habit or give up something but I think it's much better to take something up so I've signed up for some French lessons at City Lit and I am going to try to listen to a little podcast or something every day to get me to a point where I can reel off a load of French without having to work out how to construct my sentences! Paris marathon is lined up for 6th April so hopefully by the time I'm back in Paris I'll be chatting away! Happy New Year everyone! I hope you made some good resolutions yourself?
