Alice in Wonderland

I'm not entirely sure how I found out about this - I just know that Steph told me about a kind of interactive theatre experience with Alice in Wonderland and I bought my ticket.

We followed the winding 'rabbit hole' to the theatre found a bench to get a good view on. Now, I only managed to take a few pictures as you're not allowed to take pictures during the performance.

Alice in Wonderland August 2013
It started with a lot of audience participation and tricks.

Alice in Wonderland August 2013

This guy, 'Muscles from Manchester', challenged a very reluctant teenage boy to a pose off. It bordered on downright awkward as the sullen guy refused to imitate the poses from Muscles...but hey, audience participation isn't for everyone!

Alice in Wonderland August 2013

It's out of nowhere that Alice makes her entrance and the play begins, and before long the white rabbit follows and Alice invites us to chase him...to another stage.

Alice in Wonderland August 2013
We changed stage several times but it was at the third I got told off for using my camera so I had to put it away. I did sneak a quick one for the Hatter's tea party though because I loved what they did!

Alice in Wonderland August 2013

The play was absolutely fantastic, and the audience were involved throughout, the cast were amazing, changing characters constantly. I don't want to talk it up too much because it is now, unfortunately, finished. But you could keep an eye on the theatre company for upcoming shows, I am sure giving the standard of this show that others will be amazing!

Afterwards, we crossed the road to adventure bar, where the cocktails aren't cheap, the menus are awesome and the music is peppered with 90s hits.

A few cocktails later we caught the last tube home. I may have to visit that bar again though, t'was awesome!

Alicia came to London

We remember Alicia - I met her about a month after I moved to Paris, memories here. She came to visit London for the weekend...which essentially meant I spent most of my bank holiday weekend in pubs!

Alicia got to experience both extremes of the English weather this weekend! Saturday it was pouring down and Sunday was GORGEOUS - so much so that I ended up getting a little burnt! Too soon though it was time to head to St Pancras. Sophie managed to meet us for a coffee and got to catch up with Alicia (Sophie is only just moved back from Paris so it's not too long since she saw her last).

Once we'd said our goodbyes, Sophie and I decided to grab a quick drink. What are the odds though, we'd catch some of our other Parisian friends walking to get their Eurostar back to the City of Light.

It was like being back in Paris! Except for the fact that after we put Jon and Rosie on their Eurostar, Sophie and I went for Nandos...that's pretty standard London behaviour...

Rooftop Cinema Club

Find your nearest one here. And then book IMMEDIATELY for a very fun and original film night. The minute I found out one was in Ealing I hopped over to the site and was so thrilled to see they were showing 'Intouchables', an absolutely incredible French film that I cannot recommend enough. You can watch the trailer on imdb but I honestly think you shouldn't because it's so much better if you watch it not really knowing what to expect. Anyway, this isn't about the film it's about the cinema (but seriously see the film)!

The one in Ealing is next to a building site...so the views aren't particularly lovely from the rooftop but I loved these deckchairs. I'm a stickler for being able to see properly in a film, Vue and Odeon chains have nicely stacked seats but the more interesting cinemas like the Coronet or PictureHouse can sometimes leave me in a difficult position trying to see over the giant guy's head in front. Luckily with deck chairs, you're all slightly reclined and everyone has a good view.

Rooftop Cinema August 2013
There were no food options on the Ealing rooftop (except the wonderful smelling popcorn and some sweets) but they had a handy menu of takeaway places willing to deliver!

Rooftop Cinema August 2013
They also had a bar...for what is a French film, without red wine...

Rooftop Cinema August 2013
Old timey style. Soon enough the sun was setting....

Rooftop Cinema August 2013
It was time to don the wireless headphones...

Rooftop Cinema August 2013
And wrap up in the slankets provided...or in my case, the super big warm blanket I brought from home! I'm a nerd like that. Recommend recommend recommend! It doesn't cost any more than most cinemas these days and it's definitely a fun experience!

The Cup Song

Seen Pitch Perfect? I loved it. Thought it was awesome. I also remember watching Anna Kendrick doing the cup song and thinking, I have to learn that.

I love to sing - this is evident from many many a karaoke and singstar night. I'm not the best but it really doesn't matter to me, I still love to do it and will continue enforcing my friends to endure a butchering of Queen's Somebody to Love. Unfortunately for you guys, you're now included in this.

Enjoy this video, me, a mop, a kettle and a cup - hilariously I didn't realise I danced when I did this song until I recorded it!

If you enjoy the song youtube it - there are some phenomenal versions out there!

Koobla

Ben and I actually went out for this meal in June but I completely forgot to write about it which is devastating because it was AMAZING!

Koobla June 2013
Koobla is the restaurant in a hotel. It's a little posh-looking but a tastecard will get you a handy 50% off!

Koobla June 2013
For drinks they have this fantastic option of a 'wine flight'. For £8 you get three taster size glasses of three different wines. We opted for red, natch. Merlot was my favourite - but it usually is.

Koobla June 2013
Koobla June 2013
We ordered spring rolls and chicken dumplings for starters. The chicken dumplings were especially delicious!

Koobla June 2013
Koobla June 2013
Then for mains, Ben had a mutton curry, which arrived with a little heater to keep it warm - I love these little touches in restaurants, makes it so much more of a little adventure.

Koobla June 2013
I had this beast plate of noodles - I got nearly half way through before I had to give up - oh my goodness!

Koobla June 2013
And then the bill came in this giant old book! Amazing restaurant and really reasonably price once you get 50% off food! I recommend entirely!

Pizza on the Green

This little restaurant (website here) is based in Ealing, just around the corner from Ealing Broadway, opposite Haven Green. I walk past it twice daily and I've looked into it countless times and thought, I really need to try this place! Steph, the wonderful like-minded woman that she is, has often thought the same, and so, with her leaving the area (today in fact, sob!), we thought the time had come.

Pizza on the Green August 2013

The decor is what draws you in, with the random old-style lampost, the painted wall and the fairy nights, it's like dining al-fresco but, you know...fresco. We sat next to the big open windows at the front as it was a gorgeous day and started on wine.

Pizza on the Green August 2013
We ordered the cheapest red wine on the menu, cos we're that classy, and it was actually delicious. And so merited it's own picture so I can keep an eye out for it in case it pops up in Tesco!

Pizza on the Green August 2013
Naomi won best lunch with this amazing goat's cheese salad. Looked phenomenal and tasted phenomenal too she tells us, which was frustrating as I came this close to ordering it.

Pizza on the Green August 2013
But I was drawn in by the ham, mushroom and olive pizza...which was lovely, if not the best pizza I had.

Pizza on the Green August 2013
And Steph had carbonara, which she enjoyed, but found a little rich for her tastes. So on the whole, the food was fine, it's definitely reasonably priced and the place is usually packed out, so I assume the other dishes are pretty high quality, but I haven't tried them!

Pizza on the Green August 2013
The dessert menu was highly tempting and creme brulee was ordered. Disappointingly though, despite arriving still partly on fire, the sugar wasn't sufficiently melted (and we should know, all sampling several creme brulees in our time) and denied the cracking of the surface fun! Still delicious, but if you can't crack the top...you feel a little cheated.

So on the whole, I guess it's a three star place. Fine food but you won't be 'yumming' your way through it. I'll probably go back and give it a second chance...
