Jamie's Pop-Up Diner

The other day I went to see Book of Mormon. It's awesome, and I totally recommend it. But beforehand we grabbed lunch at Jamie's Pop-Up Diner.

It's a pretty permanent looking pop-up, with a random dinosaur theme.

It serves typical diner-y food.

Gemma had chicken in a basket.

I had a beef hotdog with jalapenos.

Ben had a burger with chunky fries.

We all enjoyed our meals, but agreed that Jamie's is a little overpriced for what it is.

Genesis

The website is crappy and I could not, for the life of me, work out how to book tickets online, but Genesis Cinema in Whitechapel (hehe, monopoly board) is awesome. Studio 5 baby. It's all about Studio 5.

There's a bar upstairs that seems to also have a small stage for bands and a pie bar. We didn't linger since Saving Mr. Banks was not far from starting and we had the bottle of wine we were after, so we headed down to Studio 5 fully expecting awesomeness.

We were not disappointed.

The seats are comfy heaven, made up of a combo of sofas and single armchairs. You have your own table for your drink and snacks (in our case, red wine and pick and mix, a fabulous combination), you have a footstool which opens up so you can put your bag/coat/scarf in it, and...the piece de resistance - you get a BLANKET! Genesis. You win. I didn't even mind having to trek across London to get there.

Also, Saving Mr. Banks, good film. Really enjoyed it and will be purchasing as soon as it's out.

University Reunion

How scary is this...I started uni in 2004, which means I am approaching the ten year mark since starting University. Eeeep! There's a very thoughtful group of people I was in halls with who have, for a number of years now, been organising annual reunion events. We thank them. It is so hard to keep in touch with everyone since graduating and it is just so so nice to catch up and relive the Uni years. This year, it was decided that we should go to the town where it all started, Reading. I was totally opposed to the idea, but, as is totally unusual, I was wrong.

Could NOT have had a better night. Trying super hard to see these people more often than once a year but I am so glad there are better people than me organising the annual reunion!

Boulters

Christmas is chaos. I haven't had time to sit and write in ages and I've got plenty to be writing about. But I decided since December is the month of over eating, I would post about one of the more spectacular meals I've had lately.

This is the view from Boulters. It would probably be a bit nicer in Summer, but the enjoyment of seeing the miserable weather from a warm restaurant eating delicious food and enjoying red wine has it's plus points too.

This was our little UK based Legal Team Christmas Lunch. Wow. That was a mouthful. Sadly I'm leaving my current job for a more Senior position (wooooohooooo), and so I am making the most of the time I have left with my current team as I literally love them more than you should love the people you throw work at.

Except Kiran. I won't miss her at all (mwahahahahaha). :-P Love you really, Kiran.

Three out of five of us fell for the daily menu. Honestly, for a restaurant with two Michelin rosettes, a twenty pound lunch menu is SUCH a deal. Bring on the starters:

The goats cheese starter was as good as it sounded...better in fact. I tried so hard to pace myself but I ate all of it.

Risotto for Kiran, which was heavenly...I also had a few bites of it.

Bread for the table, naturellement.

And we bullied Amar into having the ham hock pate so we could have a bite. Also a big YUM.

Roll on mains. The pork was stupendous. So so delicious in this amazing gravy/sauce thing.

Kiran had lamb which she reported was also divine. I didn't try it as I was busy demolishing my food.

And the token male on our team ordered a steak. Obviously.

Souffle!

And simply the most amazing thing in the world, this tart number. Almond ice cream also, is a complete revelation to me. I literally loved this food so much. Everyone did. A very happy team!

The Rum Kitchen

I've wanted to go to the Rum Kitchen ever since it was posted about on The Londoner, luckily, Sarah presented me with an opportunity earlier this week!

The cocktails were indeed, delicious, I went with the Rattlesnake Punch on Rosie's suggestion and it was awesome! Everyone else enjoyed their cocktails, though we grumbled at the price to size ratio...

We ordered a few starters to share. The ribs, the saltfish fritters, and the chicken wings. The resounding favourite was the ribs. Ohmygod, they were just so very very delicious. The chicken wings were good too, and I wasn't the biggest fan of the fritters myself, but they were fine.

Featured in the mains were the fish...

the chicken burger...

And the coconut and pumpkin curry. Now, the curry may not be a pretty picture, but it was delicious. I was so full from the starters but I still munched a fair amount through it, it was so good! Ben reports that his chicken burger was fine. The fish disappeared too quickly and I forgot to ask. We ordered more cocktails and chatted. The boys were tempted to order dessert but sadly no one came to our table to ask if we'd like to see the menu...by the time we flagged someone down for our bill we'd decided that, though the food was really good, for the most part, the service was pretty bad. The waiters were nice enough but they're not attentive at all. We had to flag them down and they didn't bring our side orders at all.

So, I recommend you go when you have plenty of time and don't mind waiting a while. I won't be hurrying back but I probably would go again.
